Oura Water Treatment Plant - Stage 3, Pump Station and Dosing Building

Overview

Goldenfields Water engaged Van Mal Group Construction Pty Ltd in August 2024 to undertake the design and construction of a new pump station and dosing building at the Oura Water Treatment Plant. On its own, the pump station and dosing building upgrade contract is valued at $6.3M and forms part of the greater stage 3 of the Oura Water Treatment Plant Upgrade, which in total is valued at approximately $10.7M.

Overall, stage 3 of the upgrade includes:

  • Design and construction of new pump station and dosing buildings, as well as their associated services, including electrical, HVAC and drainage.
  • Procurement of all pipework, fittings and ancillaries, and the construction of new pipeline sections connecting the new buildings to existing Goldenfields Water infrastructure.
  • Site civil and roadworks, including stormwater infrastructure.
  • Demolition of redundant Goldenfields Water assets; the existing Oura reservoir and dosing buildings.
  • Commissioning of 3 new pumps and high voltage motors.
  • Installation and commissioning of new chlorine and fluoride dosing equipment.

 Project Progress

  • Designs were developed over the last few months of 2024 and completed in early 2025.
  • Site mobilisation was completed in early 2025, with bulk earthworks and site preparation being completed in January.
  • 200m of pump station discharge pipeline was constructed and completed in February and March 2025.
  • Dosing building slab was prepared and poured in March 2025, including building services preparation and connection. Blockwork wall construction to follow suit.
  • Pump station building slab preparation currently underway, with concrete being poured in early April 2025. Individual slabs for each of the 3 new pumps and motors were poured in March 2025.
  • Existing Oura reservoir demolition to be completed in May 2025.
  • Building and pipeline construction to be completed in November 2025.
  • New dosing building to be fitted out with chlorine and fluoride dosing equipment and commissioned in late 2025 (separate contracts).
  • New pumps to be installed and commissioned TBC.

Project Benefits

  • Replace ageing building infrastructure that is showing signs of failure.
  • Increase pumping capacity to meet future population growth and water demands, with variable speed drives for improved efficiency.
  • Replace end-of-life dosing equipment with new equipment sized to meet future water demands.
