Goldenfields Water’s Apprentice Fitter Machinist, Bailey Lowes, has taken home gold and silver in events at the 2024 Riverina Murray Region WorldSkills Australia competitions.

At an award ceremony hosted on Thursday 14 November 2024 in Wagga Wagga, Bailey was awarded gold in fitting and silver in turning. Bailey competed in the two events, in September and October this year, testing his skills against other apprentices in the region.

Bailey will now showcase his talent at a national level in fitting, representing the Riverina Murray Region in the NSW team at the WorldSkills Australia National Championship. Held in Brisbane from 12-14 June 2025, the competition is the largest skills and trade competition in the Southern Hemisphere. The event will include around 600 competitors and 300 volunteers allowing trainees, apprentices, and students across Australia to compete in over 59 skills.

“It will be a once in a lifetime opportunity,” Bailey said of the chance to compete at the national level. “I’m looking forward to showing the skills and knowledge I've gained over the years at TAFE NSW Wagga Wagga and Goldenfields Water”.

As part of the NSW team, proudly supported by TAFE NSW, Bailey will attend a training camp prior to the National Championship. The state training camp will be held in March 2025 in Wollongong and will give competitors in the NSW team the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming nationals.

Goldenfields Water’s General Manager, Aaron Drenovski said of Bailey’s success “the team of Goldenfields Water are very proud of Bailey and his achievements to date. It is a continued testament to the mentorship and investment the organisation provides to trainees and apprentices within region. We are confident in Bailey’s ability to succeed at the national level.”

An award ceremony for WorldSkills Australia National Championship will be held on Saturday 14 June 2025. Competitors who receive gold in their respective skills at this award ceremony will have the opportunity to compete for Australia against 86 other countries at the WorldSkills International Competition.
